Professor Christian Hamm is current Director of the Medical Clinic I at the University of Giessen, Germany. He received his medical training at the universities of Mainz and Hamburg before completing research fellowships at the universities of Cape Town and Hamburg. Accepting an associate professorship at University Hospital in Hamburg in 1989, he became Medical Director and Chief of Cardiology at the Kerckhoff Heart and Thorax Center, Bad Nauheim, Germany, in 1999. In 2011, he became full Professor of Cardiology at the University of Giessen. His research interests include acute coronary syndrome; cardiac biomarkers, MRI and CT; and interventional cardiology. He is PI for many national and international clinical trials and has published in many peer-reviewed journals.
Prof. Hamm is member of several guideline committees and is Co-Chair of the 2011 ESC Guidelines for Diagnosis Management of patients with non-ST-elevation Acute Coronary Syndromes. He is on the editorial boards of several journals, and is current President of the German Cardiac Society (2013–2015).
