Professor Franz Weidinger is the current Head of 2nd Medical Department (Cardiology), Rudolfstiftung Hospital, Vienna. He completed his medical studies and training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at the University of Vienna, Austria, and a research fellowship at Brigham and Women´s Hospital, Harvard Medical School in Boston (1987–1989). He became Assistant Professor of Medicine in 1992 and Associate Professor of Medicine in 1997 at the University of Medicine, Vienna. From 1997 to 2007 he also served as Deputy Head of Division and Director of Cardiovascular Research at Medical University Innsbruck, Austria. His scientific interests include acute coronary syndromes, noninvasive diagnosis of atherosclerosis, primary PCI in acute myocardial infarction, quality assessment, and interventional registries. Prof. Weidinger is current President of the Austrian Society of Cardiology (2013–2015), fellow of FESC and FACC, member of EAPCI of the ESC, board member 2006–2009 and 2011–2014, and task force member of ESC Guidelines on ST-elevation myocardial infarction in 2008. He is author and co-author of >100 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
